Celebrating 20 Years Together: A Community Block Party to Remember
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, Richmond Civic Center Plaza came alive with joy, laughter, and connection as FIERCE Advocates hosted our 20th Anniversary Community Block Party. Families from across Contra Costa gathered to celebrate two decades of community, empowerment, and collective impact. From Zumba and line dancing to face painting, bubbles, and delicious food, the day was filled with moments that highlighted the creativity, strength, and spirit of our community.
A Day Full of Movement and Music
The schedule was packed with activities that brought everyone together. Erica Jones-Lieberum got hearts pumping with lively Zumba sessions, while the Black Women’s Sanctuary led an energetic line dancing performance. Grupo Folklorico Danza Azteca Guadalupana shared their beautiful cultural traditions, and Get It Girl Dance and Divine Women - Latina Sanctuary performances kept the energy high. DJ-spun music and raffles added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring smiles on the faces of children and adults alike.
Sheryl Lane, FIERCE Executive Director, reflected on her favorite part of the day. She shared that seeing the full spectrum of our community, from babies to elders, enjoying the celebration was unforgettable. Youth chasing bubbles and proudly showing off their face painting added to the joy. Watching community members dance in the streets, connecting with each other through movement and music, was a highlight that captured the spirit of the event.
The Heart of the Celebration
This block party was more than fun. It exemplified FIERCE’s vision of creating inclusive, joyful, and safe spaces. Sheryl emphasized the importance of gathering as a community despite differences in language, ethnicity, or background. The event provided an opportunity to learn from one another, connect with local organizations, and support entrepreneurs sharing their goods and services.
