As FIERCE marks two decades of serving families and communities, we are highlighting stories that reflect our mission in action. Alex Spry’s reflections on Brilliance of Brotherhood remind us how creating safe spaces for men to grow and connect strengthens not only individuals, but entire communities.
For Alex Spry, Brilliance of Brotherhood is more than a program. It is a space where men of all ages gather to grow, reflect, and encourage one another. As a certified life coach and mental health coach, Alex has helped many individuals transition out of difficult situations, focusing on healing, growth, and becoming better. Within FIERCE, he is grateful to share these skills in a community where men are encouraged to support one another’s journeys.
“The goal is for us to be better as men,” Alex shared. “When you have better men, you have a better society.”
That vision is at the heart of Brilliance of Brotherhood. It is not only about personal growth but also about creating healthier families, stronger communities, and a more supportive society. Men come as fathers, sons, husbands, brothers, and neighbors. They leave with renewed strength and a deeper commitment to carrying what they learn back into their homes and communities.
“Multiple people came up to me and said, Alex, this was so worth my time. My voice felt heard. I feel more encouraged, more uplifted by coming here.”
The program is intentionally intergenerational, welcoming young men alongside elders so wisdom and perspective flow in both directions. Alex describes the beauty of this exchange: boys as young as ten sitting alongside men nearing seventy, each learning from one another in a space rooted in respect and honesty.
“We are able to support and encourage one another, and it is powerful. Very, very powerful.”
A Legacy of Growth at 20 Years
As FIERCE Advocates marks 20 years of impact, Brilliance of Brotherhood represents how the organization continues to evolve while staying rooted in community. Over two decades, FIERCE has created spaces for healing, leadership, and advocacy across generations. Programs like this one show how the mission is alive in new and dynamic ways.
Alex sees that connection clearly:
“It is crazy that FIERCE has been around for 20 years and I feel like they have so much potential to grow and go even further.”
Looking forward, he envisions ways to expand the reach of Brilliance of Brotherhood, including new uses of technology to connect and uplift even more men. His hope mirrors FIERCE’s own future, building on two decades of impact with a vision for long-lasting change.
“When we are better, we are going to improve our situations. Whether we have spouses, whether we have children, or whether it is on our jobs and just in our communities, we can be more supportive. We can help be the catalyst for more healthier families, more healthier societies.”
