Sheryl Lane on ABC7: FIERCE Advocates Celebrates 20 Years with Community Block Party in Richmond
When Executive Director Sheryl Lane sat down with ABC7 this week, her passion for Richmond, for families, and for the future of our community shined bright. Sheryl spoke about the journey of FIERCE Advocates, from humble beginnings in one Richmond neighborhood to a movement that has impacted thousands of families across the Bay Area.
For two decades, FIERCE has walked alongside Black and Latinx families to advance maternal health, mental health, education justice, and leadership development. As Sheryl reminded viewers, this work has always been about the power of community wisdom and collective leadership to create real change.

One highlight of the interview was FIERCE’s CoCo Doulas program, which provides culturally responsive doula care at no cost to families. By training doulas from within the community, FIERCE is helping to dismantle disparities in maternal health and ensure that Black birthing people receive the care and respect they deserve.
